LA in the summertime.... Could there be any place we'd rather be? Well, maybe off on some island somewhere I guess. Short of that dream vacation though, we're content to hang out BBQing to the sounds of Max and Ty G at the HVW8 Gallery in LA. They pulled through with a back to basics mix of new, old, classic, rare and unheard of yet. Another summer soundtrack (aka something to keep our Southern Hemisphere friends warm as well).
We all hope you're turned on to a little something this week!

This week, the BBQ takes a field trip over to Echo Park in Los Angeles for the Beat Swap Meet. This is a record show/sale held a few times a year here and it's like no other in town. It's a virtual who's who of the local DJ scene - all buying, selling and DJing!
We had a great day at our table, running into tons of friends and making many new ones. It was all about original vinyl so that's what your going to hear at this BBQ Session. We plugged in and just recorded a few of the many, many DJs that came through during the day.
DJs Counterstryke and Expo make up most of the set but there were so many throughout the day, and the music was so good, that everyone was worthy of the spotlight. Regardless of that, we hope that inspires you to dig out your old tracks and maybe go out to dig for some new ones. The Beat Swap Meet and Live at the BBQ will give you another chance real soon!
(sorry but track listing was impossible at this event)

My oh my!!! The BBQ is back in full effect and it's LIVE!!!
Our friend Noelle Scaggs and DJ DJ Rhettmatic were here n Sunday to get down with one of the most amazing events we've ever had at the HVW8 Gallery!!
Rhettmatic starts us off with a nice little mix as only he can and then launches Noelle straight into what she knows best - soul, soul and more soul. Most of the tracks here are exclusive, advance material that may, or may not be included in future Noelle projects. You'll hear Rhettmatic on the mix throughout.
Who knows? This may be the only spot you ever hear the versions included here... Thanks Noelle - you rocked the BBQ!!!
Chords
Pressure (produced by Evidence)
Love and War
Let Go
U and I (accapella)
Chaos (produced by Rhettmatic)
Think
Dialed Up
Evil Vibrations
Unfortunately, we have no track list for Rhett's mix but we know he'll be back soon to do his own solo guest spot on Live at the BBQ.... Looking forward to that too!
Thanks to everyone who made it out on Sunday and thanks to you for the support!!

On a recent trip out to LA from NYC, our friend Prince Language was snared by the HVW8 kidnap sneak-attack. He was loungin' at one of the local theme parks and we came with the bum rush. I threw the potato sack over his head ad Ty brought the van around back. From there it was straight to the studio... Luckily, he's a good sport and we got him to drop a little set on us. For some reason he had some records with him - we got lucky on that one!
He always comes with amazing tracks that we can pretty much guarantee you'll not find on other mixes out there! I think you'll agree the stealth mission was quite worth it. You're welcome... Don't turn us in.
Here now for you, doing it as only he can:

Look forward to "Music is My Art" from HVW8 and solidstatela. You won't need to do a thing. No changes to your subscription needed.
So, as a way to close out the BBQ series, Ty G and Max thought they'd look back at their roots in the Acid Jazz movement of the early 90's. The following are hand picked classics, all original records.
You'll certainly be able to tell where these two came from by the individual styles reflected - Ty from Montreal and Max from the West Coast, US. Geography won't matter in the mix though. Sure to bring back memories!

Welcome back to the BBQ!!
How lucky were we to be able to snag the dynamic duo of Blu and Exile fresh off the release of the acclaimed album, Below the Heavens? Well, let's just say they did us all a favor by coming through - dudes are in major demand these days!
You'll see why in their mix. It gives us a little insight into why these two work so well together, with Blu on the mic and Exile workin the beats - and some rhymes too! They obviously have a good time while gettin down to some serious business.
So here it is, a mix hand picked by Exile and Blu. Get ready for classics, exclusives, alternative takes, friends and relations - all with a little comedy thrown in to keep it Live.... at the BBQ that is.

Here's a message from the man himself, dãm-funk:
This set I dropped was based in the Boogie, Funk & Modern-Funk music genre's respecfully. This style was first broken and played in a continuous basis (all nite with no filler) @ Funkmosphere (L.A.). This early to mid 80's sound has been respected in the UK & Europe for years, while virtually being ignored here in the states...unfortunately (headz prefering 4 on the floor house sounds, and hip-hop only). After years of myself & others being into this sound and diggin' for this wax, L.A. is now @ the forefront (here in the U.S.) of this emerging scene of Funk & Boogie soundz. Let's keep diggin' ya'll!!
Amen.
It was our honor to be apart of YOUR creative vision dãm-funk! 1!

We caught JT while he was in town last weekend, just before his sets at the King King and DoOver here in LA.
Of course, JT is well known worldwide for his house sets and production skills. Luckily, we know him as a friend and as someone with a deep love for the foundations of dance music. His crates are equally deep and there's way more to his sets than just the straight ahead house bangers...
We got him to throw down this set of some of his personal favorites, classic material and cuts he feels we all need to know about. No four on the floor here - this turned out to be the perfect end of summer soundtrack!
Here you go!
